Lakers vs Spurs Game 3
-
5:20Daniel (LA Ball Talk) -Welcome to Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals!! The Los Angeles Lakers currently lead 2-0 in the best of seven series and hope to take a 3-0 lead on the road at the AT&T Center.5:20[Comment From Mark (FBnG)]Hey guys! Just wanna tell you that you’re doing a great job covering the past 2 games of the WCF Series. Game 3 will be the momentum-changer of the series. I don’t say we steal one. I say we GET WHAT’S OURS. Are we seeing the Death of a Dynasty? or the Birth of a Legacy?5:21Daniel (LA Ball Talk) -Thanks Mark, greatly appreciated! I think this is the beginning of a Dynasty for the Lakers… this team is built to win championships every year for the next five years at least.5:23Daniel (LA Ball Talk) -But, obviously as a new dynasty begins, the death of a current dynasty must occur. The Spurs have been really dominant for years, but they have become too old to compete for the upcoming years. The GM RC Buford is brilliant and will work with Pop to create a strong team in the offseasons.5:24[Comment From Mark (FBnG)]As for the defense, I think these Lakers squad have been underrated. They have held the Spurs to 37.5% shooting and forced 26 turnovers on 2 games. The Lakers have defended the perimeter well (most likely the Spurs just missed them, lol!). They held their 3-pt shooting to a dismal 25.5%. They have also had 13 blocks and 15 steals in the last two games. Credit the Lakers’ defense.5:26Daniel (LA Ball Talk) -Of course, these Lakers have learned how to play well together. JA Adande wrote a great article about team camradery today and discussed the European aspect of the team. The different backgrounds of the players really brings them all close together. When the guys have a close bond, they mesh better together on the court and play better defense as a result. The Spurs play great defense but don’t move as fast as the Lakers. The other aspect of the Lakers defense is that it will only improve in the years to come as the guys continue to mesh and especially with the return of the other seven footer, Andrew Bynum.5:27[Comment From Mark (FBnG)]Since The Machine is doing a GRREEEAAATT job on Manu as of the moment, I would like Ariza to defend Parker. As much as as Tony Parker has struggled in this series, you can’t argue more with the stats. It points out that Tony Parker has been nothing but a genius on their arena. He averages 26ppg on 52.13% shooting and dishes out 7.2 apg compared to 19.88ppg on 45.65%shooting while dishing out 5.25apg at the road. If Ariza could get on Tony’s head, then it’s probable that Tim Duncan will be the only one who will get running.5:29Daniel (LA Ball Talk) -You make a good point regarding the defense of Vujacic and Ariza. The problem is that you can’t really play both guys at once. I think the defensive strategy is quite simple; we start Derek Fisher on Parker, than see what Farmar can do on the defensive end against him, and then if need be, we can throw Vujacic and Ariza at him. One step at a time though. We’ve one two games without Ariza (only garbage minutes in game 2) and we should continue going with what’s worked. What Parker has done in the previous series has nothing to do with this one. These Lakers are far better than the other teams the Spurs have faced.5:29[Comment From Mark (FBnG)]Any keys for the game?5:30Daniel (LA Ball Talk) -The keys to the game are the same as they have been for games 1 & 2. Lamar Odom is the key to the Lakers offense. The Spurs have nobody that can match up with Odom and he should be able to operate at will. Also, as long as Pau Gasol plays solid defense and isn’t lazy, as in continues to rotate and box out for rebounds, these Lakers should be perfectly fine. I don’t think the road really makes all that big of a difference for this Lakers team. They won game 6 in Utah, they can win anywhere.5:31[Comment From Mark (FBnG)]I think the Jazz are a better team than the Spurs, am I an idiot for that?5:32Daniel (LA Ball Talk) -No, I definitely agree with that. I think the perspective of better has been judged from different points of view. The Spurs are a better meshed team in terms of filled at every position. They can defend anyone (except Lamar Odom). Utah has a few holes in it’s defense but the dynamic duo of Williams and Boozer together with the other guys is deadly. They are young, quick, and able to adjust quickly. They are all about runs and will be a threat for years to come.5:32[Comment From Mark (FBnG)]The Spurs’ arena have much more “class” than the Jazz’ and is relatively quiet considering the atmosphere in that EnergySolutions Arena.5:33Daniel (LA Ball Talk) -To be honest, the Lakers home court advantage is not one of the best. The Staples Center isn’t nearly as loud as it has been in the past, such as the three peat years, but the team seems to play better, which is to be expected. The AT&T Arena just gives the Spurs a chance to have the crowd on their side in general.5:34Daniel (LA Ball Talk) -The game is underway, let’s get some more thoughts on what’s to come today…5:34[Comment From Mark (FBnG)]The Jazz’ bench is way better than the Spurs’ (at least a bench player not named Ginobili).5:35Daniel (LA Ball Talk) -Ginobli isn’t exactly a bench player, bench players usually play les minutes that starters!5:35[Comment From Mark (FBnG)]I need to get a call right now. Be back in five minutes. I’m also gonna TiVo it.5:35Daniel (LA Ball Talk) -Sounds good5:36[Comment From Apryl DeLancey]Man - they need to get their act together5:36[Comment From Apryl DeLancey]Finally a score5:37Daniel (LA Ball Talk) -I’m fine with not scoring as long as the Spurs don’t score either! After all, we’ve got Kobe on our side!5:37[Comment From Apryl DeLancey]Oooh…sick!5:37Daniel (LA Ball Talk) -Nice aggresive drive from Vlade, thats what we need from him!5:38[Comment From Apryl DeLancey]OK - looks like we’re picking up now!5:38[Comment From FLUX]*holding broom* Lakers sweep - act 35:38[Comment From Apryl DeLancey]Kobe is on FIRE with another 3! LAL 7 SA 45:39Daniel (LA Ball Talk) -Welcome back FLUX, I was wondering where you were, where’s the rest of the gang today?? Running a bit late I’m assuming.5:39Apryl DeLancey -Man! That was a bummer pass! But sweet - Spurs couldn’t capitalize5:40FLUX -Hey Daniel.. I dunno.. everyone has been MIA.5:40Apryl DeLancey -Ginobli should retire5:40Apryl DeLancey -At least for this series…he hasn’t done much5:40FLUX -Thanks for having me.. going to msg them!5:41Apryl DeLancey -Did you hear the Spurs get jinxed just now? They said they are 6-0 at home in the playoffs…kiss of death!5:41[Comment From Mark (FBnG)]I’m back.5:42FLUX -if anyone should retire it’s Horry, no?5:42Daniel (LA Ball Talk) -This game is extremely slow and in general a slow pace has been in favor of the Spurs, but the lakers have really learned to mix it up well.5:42[Comment From Mark (FBnG)]Bad job with the late help defense.5:42Apryl DeLancey -Ooh - sweet basket by Gasol!5:42Mark (FBnG) -Thanks.5:43Apryl DeLancey -Yeah - poor Horry - I can’t hate him since he has a history with LA - look at Gasol! Sweet!5:43Mark (FBnG) -Odom is exploiting Horry’s defense, the problem is he’s not shooting.5:43Mark (FBnG) -11-8 Lakers.5:43Apryl DeLancey -No doubt5:43Daniel (LA Ball Talk) -I love seeing Gasol take that outside shot, you think Kwame could’ve made a jumper to save his life?5:43Apryl DeLancey -You think?5:43Mark (FBnG) -Haven’t seen that from Gasol for a long time.5:43Daniel (LA Ball Talk) -I think Kwame would just take a bullet and not even waste the time shooting!5:44Apryl DeLancey -Gasol looks great so far!5:45FLUX -Kwame just has small/bad hands I think. Not his fault he got drafted so high. He does play decent D.5:45Mark (FBnG) -I would like to see more of the Lakers ’80s on this one. You know what I mean, in a game where they would be up by 20 or 30 and they’ll try to beat you by 40. I’d like to see that kind of aggressiveness in the Lakers. They play the whole 48 minutes of the game.5:46Daniel (LA Ball Talk) -I really like the way the Lakers are focused. I wonder if everyone else notices it or not, but there is just this look on the player’s faces that says, we are here to win, and we aren’t going home without a victory.5:46Mark (FBnG) -Even the Spurs’ athletic trainer is old.5:47FLUX -Yeah D, they def look and are playing that way. This is a sweep for sure, I think.5:47Daniel (LA Ball Talk) -LOL… I’d still trade Gary Vitti for him!5:47Mark (FBnG) -Nice!5:47Mark (FBnG) -KO-BE!5:47Daniel (LA Ball Talk) -I’d do anything to get rid of Vitti…. I think he’s outdated and unaware of new medical advancements.5:48Daniel (LA Ball Talk) -They are playing great defense so far, this is great to keep the crowd quiet and not let them push the team. We have to make sure to avoid easy baskets and open shots for them.5:48Daniel (LA Ball Talk) -Just me or was his foot on the line?5:48Mark (FBnG) -Back-to-back.5:48Apryl DeLancey -Dang - I shouldn’t have said mean things bout Ginobli5:49Daniel (LA Ball Talk) -His foot was on the line!!! I was right, Lakers should be up by 25:49Apryl DeLancey -Nice - NBA refs at their finest5:49Daniel (LA Ball Talk) -Great passing…5:50Daniel (LA Ball Talk) -That late dive by either Odom or Radmanovic has become a great play for this team.5:51Daniel (LA Ball Talk) -What a crossover on Bowen, I didn’t notice that as it played out live.5:51Apryl DeLancey -LAL 15 - SA 14 and they just reminded us who the MVP was!5:51Mark (FBnG) -Gotta get another call on the line! be back in 5!5:52Apryl DeLancey -This is awesome Daniel, thanks for hosting it! Nice. Welcome back Sir5:53Daniel (LA Ball Talk) -It’s only the first half of the first quarter, let’s wait and see a bit more from Ginobli before we say he’s playing great.5:53Apryl DeLancey -No doubt!5:53[Comment From Jack]He’s playing great considering his injury5:53[Comment From Don (With Malice...)]Thanks Flux…5:53[Comment From peps]He’s already done mre than in the last two games!5:53[Comment From Don (With Malice...)]Still waiting for Daniel to hit me with ‘permission’…5:54Daniel (LA Ball Talk) -How’s that!!5:54Apryl DeLancey -Nice! LAL 16- SA 14 Odom makes the free throw5:54Don (With Malice…) -MUCH better! Aaaand my ‘gut’ (which has been pretty reliable throughout the playoffs) says LA take this one… in a nailbiter5:54[Comment From Jack]It’s not longer Kobe VS. Duncan, it’s Kobe VS. Everyone5:54FLUX -I believe Don is a Ninja living in Japan posing as a teacher. Unless he teaches at a dojo.
5:54Apryl DeLancey -I like your gut5:55Don (With Malice…) -*wave out to the folks*5:55[Comment From Jack]KOBEEEEEEEE TIME5:55[Comment From Jack]KOBEEEEEE TIME5:55[Comment From Jack]KOBEEEEE TIME5:55Don (With Malice…) -Hey Apryl - thanks for the visits/commments5:55FLUX -Is that to say you are holding a Laker broom, Don?5:55Apryl DeLancey -You too Don!5:55Daniel (LA Ball Talk) -Thanks for the early link today Don, hopefully it brings some good input from your readers.5:55[Comment From Jack]Lakers will win this5:55[Comment From Jack]in 5
