Nike 3 On 3 Slam Dunk Contest

LOS ANGELES, July, 2010 – The Nike 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament today announced the list of highflyers who will compete in the second annual Nike 3 on 3 slam dunk competition on Saturday, Aug. 7. Highlighting the group of slam dunk specialists is Terry Cournoyea aka. T-Dub, who has won 40 slam dunk contests from U.S. to Europe to Asia. The second annual 3 on 3 event tips off Friday, Aug. 6- Sunday, Aug. 8 at L.A. LIVE, across the street from STAPLES Center, in downtown Los Angeles.
T-Dub will face his toughest challenge yet when he competes against Kevin “Golden Child” Kemp, Brandon “Werm” Lacue and Justin “Jusfly” Darlington considered three of the top dunk artists in the nation. T-Dub, only 5’9”, has created dozens of new dunks on his way to winning 40 contests and is a You Tube sensation generating more than 6 million video views.
Golden Child, 6’1”, has a 50” vertical and is the defending French Slam Dunk champion.
Werm, 6’2”, is known to be the best one-foot dunker in the United States. He has won 26 professional slam dunk competitions.
JusFly, 6’4”, invented the cartwheel between the legs dunk and is the 2008 French Slam Dunk champion.
Last year’s slam dunk competition featured never-before-seen dunks and was won by Guy Dupay from France. He secured the dunk title by leaping over three people, rotating the ball behind his back in midair and slamming it home. His impressive aerial-acrobatic display earned Dupay a cash prize and special try-out with the D-Fenders of the NBA Developmental League.
Registration for the Nike 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament is currently underway and concludes on July 30. Participants can register online or download a registration form at www.nike3on3.com.
An interactive Fan Fest located on Nokia Plaza L.A. LIVE will open Friday, Aug. 6 and be free to participants and the general public throughout the three day event. The three-day experience will feature a variety of events at Nike and Frito-Lay Center Courts, including the Nike Slam Dunk Contest, appearances by NBA players and special guests, live music, food and beverage areas, and basketball-themed activities and competitions.
The inaugural 3 on 3 event attracted more than 500 teams, making it one of the largest 3 on 3 basketball tournaments in the United States. A significant growth in participation in year two is expected.
