Kobe’s People Have Lost Their Mind
-
You all know me to be a huge Lakers fan and an enormous Kobe supporter. There was never anything that Kobe can do wrong that I would openly criticize. But now, he/his people have taken it too far.
Kobe Bryant is easily one of the most recognizable athletes in the world. A few years back he launched a website to give his fans a chance to be a part of his community at KB24.com. The site has recently undergone minor changes and one big change.
They are trying to charge users $49.95 subscription to the site.
What’s included in the membership you ask? This:
- An exclusive KB24 T-Shirt
- Access to exclusive content including videos, audio and photos
- Members-only access to exclusive contests.
- Access to exclusive KB24 events
- Access to member only messageboards, blogs, social network
- Exclusive access to KB24 events (chat/blogs/live video/listening party, meet & greets etc).
- Much More.
What is much more? Who knows?
We do know that you get this amazingly navy shirt though!

Come on!
This is ridiculous. Absolutely insane. I’m not cool with this at all. I was actually a registered member of KB24.com and felt that it was a nice site to view Kobe content on. I enjoyed the videos his site offered of his highlights from each individual season in the NBA and even a reel from his high school days.
If I am forced to pay however, there is no chance that I will continue visiting this site. I could’ve swore that he makes enough money off his contract and endorsements to not have to hassle his fans for more money just to show their love for him. Since when do you have to pay to show love for a guy.
All in all, I’d have to say that this is one of the more ridiculous things I’ve seen so far. I’d highly recommend that many of you fans write letters to Kobe’s people and complain about this. It’s simply not fair to you, the fan, to have to pay to enjoy watching special clips of a guy you worship that already makes crazy amounts of money.

Obviously Kobe doesn’t need the money. What I realistically see that could’ve happened here is that Kobe just let some of his boys run the site and said they could do whatever they wanted with it. This just smells of the webmasters wanting to pay themselves.

I got my membership for free, it’s my understanding that thousands of folks got theirs for free as well. I enjoy it because theirs a striving community of fans and movers and shakers and it’s actually much more rewarding then myspace or facebook. News is updated daily, shoes are given exclusively. I don’t know any other athlete site doing that, but if there is i’ll sign up for those too!
I am sure their costs to running the site, does anyone know what they are and if Kobe is actually making a profit?

SportsTsar has a point, perhaps someone else is making money off of this. These guys shall from now on be known as “Turtle” for obvious reasons (refer to Entourage for explanation).
And to Bobby: the costs of running a site are very minimal, that is why you see so many sports blogs. Hosting is fairly nothing, especially for a public relations team supporting Kobe. After all, I run this site, talk about Kobe on a daily basis, and don’t ask you all to pay for my content! I need the money a hell of a lot more than whoever is running his site! That’s a fact!

If Kobe stops raping little girls he would not have to collect more money from fans.
