Training Camp Notes
-
There are finally some good things coming out of Lakers Training Camp. Apparently Lamar Odom is finally getting the hang of things and starting to perform closer to the level the coaching staff expects of him.
Phil Jackson had a few interesting things to say about Lamar. “He’s starting to get a feel for it,” Jackson said. “He’s starting to play basketball. He looks like he’s playing really well now. His timing is there, his reaction is there, his conditioning is getting better. All those things.”
Of course, we could never expect Phil Jackson to go a full press conference without digging under someone. The target this time? Andrew Bynum.
Jackson commented on Bynum not being fully there during practice. He said that Bynum took a step back from the day before. His way of putting the hot iron under Bynum… “He most not have his contract on his mind.”
Clever line. Always clever lines. I could or would never expect anything less from the Zen Master. I would really like to see Bynum continue to work hard every day and not just in games. Being a 20 year old kid, we can’t really expect him to be the base of this team. On second thought, for the millions of dollars he’s making, I think it’s ok to expect more from him than the average 20 year old. GET TO WORK BYNUM.
