Training Camp Report: Day 1
-
Training camp has officially begun and the Lakers are in El Segundo ready to go to work.
As many may know, this team is surrounded by the glamours of Hollywood, so surely enough, the first thing to do, is enjoy a long day of media questioning. Thanks to Lakers.com, you are all welcome to take a look at the interviews with Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol, and Andrew Bynum.
In other news, Phil Jackson has expressed the fact that Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol may get some time off form playing Exhibition games so that they may catch up on some rest. Since both stars were involved in big time battles throughout the Summer representing their respective countries, Head Coach Phil Jackson believes it may be in the team’s best interest to allow them to take it easy before the regular season gets underway. As a fan, I’d prefer to see them play together on the court, but as a reporter and someone with a realistic understanding of the game, I suppor the coaches decision and am ready to watch this team dominate the season.
Besides Bryant and Gasol, news has started to circulate that Lamar Odom, according the LA Times,  is unhappy with the thought of being a sixth man on this team and entering the rotation off the bench. We all know that Phil Jackson has thrown out the idea of Lamar coming off the bench to give the second unit a boost as the small forward position is a tight one with Trevor Ariza, Luke Walton, and Vladimir Radmanovic all fighting for minutes.
“He must have woke up and bumped his head. He probably hit his head on something — boom,” Odom said about Jackson. “To start off like that, you’ve got to be out of your . . . mind.”
I truly believe this is another example of Odom’s poor judgement and character that could potentialy send him out of town. For the sake of this team’s success however, let’s hope he adapts to this team, steps up to be the player we all know he’s capable of being, and proves his worth to this team and its fans.
