Dallas Phoenix Trade Proposal
Posted by: Daniel Sagal in Off-topic, tags: Dallas Mavericks, Phoenix Suns, TradesIt’s funny to me how certain thoughts manage to run across several peoples minds at the same time.
As I was sitting on my lunch break eating a juicy double cheeseburger with a friend of mine, we started discussing the many destiny’s of NBA coaches. With the announcement of Avery Johnson being fired, and story after story about Mike D’ Antoni on his way out of Phoenix. With the failures of both the Mavs and the Suns in the 2008 playoffs we started throwing ideas out of what both of these teams need in order to succeed next season.
Later in the afternoon, I logged in to the site as Admin and went to go look over the newest comments that were posted. Longtime reader Harrison decided to chime in on the Western Conference Recap. His thoughts were almost identical to the conversation I had with the SportsTsar.
Avery Johnson is a great coach that teaches a good mix of quick offense and solid defense. Mike D’ Antoni is a European style coach that teach the seven second offense and lacks any knowledge of defense. The Dallas Mavericks have been a half decent defensive team but haven’t quite understood the concept of runnin’ n gunnin’ as the Suns have learned from their coach. The Phoenix Suns have an amazing offense but have absolutely no idea how to play defense.
Solution: trade the coaches. Avery Johnson needs to join the Phoenix Suns and teach them how to mix their incredible offense with some solid defense. Mike D’ Antoni needs to join the Dallas Mavericks and let the group run wild with Jason Kidd at the point. Both teams will improve as they won’t lose their key components, and will adapt to a strategy that is more reliable at both ends of the court.
Just another quick thought, while the teams are making trades, how about the Mavs send Josh Howard to Phoenix along with a sign and traded Michael Finley for Boris Diaw and Leandro Barbosa. I think this will stabalize both teams a bit more and give them several more options. Hey, Steve Kerr traded for Shaq after he got his AARP card, what makes you think he wouldn’t do the same for Finley?

That trade of coaches makes the most sense, but if Avery can’t get his team to play defense against the Hornets, I’m not very confident he can do it against the Spurs either. I like the idea of D’Antoni in Dallas though w/ Kidd at the point… very good offense.
The player trade doesn’t make any sense at all… Finley is going to sign w/ Dallas.
