Reports from training camp have indicated that the Lakers are working on several different potential lineups for the start of the season. No one knows for sure yet, but the big theme seems to be the success and energy of Ronny Turiaf. He’s always been a vital part of the Lakers since his first appearance after successful heart surgery and he has been the main spark of energy off the bench. There hasn’t been a single player that has matched his intensity on the court since the twelve days that Denis Rodman wore purple and gold.

Much of the team drama has been pushed out of the way from various summer events as well as the many emotions from the end of last season. The Kobe issue is clearly a non-issue now a days and locker room camaraderie has improved significantly from last season due to Derek Fisher’s presence. (Expect an article on Derek Fisher’s involvement with the franchise shortly) Vlad Radmanovic has clearly recovered from last year’s season ending shoulder injury. The issues with the tendons in his shooting hand have been resolved and he is expected to finally perform at a level equal to $6,000,000/year (whatever that may be these days). In response to a question asked by a local Los Angeles Times reporter, Radmanovic replied: “There was a last year? Did I play last year? I think that there answers your question.”

I truly am looking forward to seeing the Lakers finally come together as a unit and become successful as a team rather than a showcase of individual talents. Lamar Odom should finally feel out his game after three years playing beside Kobe. Derek Fisher will be a great addition with his positive attitude and leadership ability. Kwame, Mihm, and Bynum will be the three headed monster in the middle that surpasses all expectations and delivers a solid performance night-in, night-out against any and all centers in the NBA. Luke Walton has no pressure on him due to his newly signed six year contract and Brian Cook has the ability to perform when called upon (as long as he learns how to play like he’s 6’10” as opposed to 6’0”). Jordan and Javaris will compete against one another and cause for immediate improvement since both know they must perform to gain playing time behind D. Fish. Finally, Kobe is self explanatory!

Now lets go enjoy a preseason full of hard work, a regular season full of smiles, and a post season of camaraderie and sportsmanship that will propel the Lakers into the 2nd round of the Western Conference.

Enjoy the season and look back for stories periodically!!
