Lakers Spring Cleaning
-
The Lakers have a nice flow going since the all-star break, winning 15 of their last 16 after losing 3 in a row including a loss at Cleveland. They really have bounced back for the spring time looking unstoppable with Kobe making sure he gets his votes for MVP. The rest of the starters are playing well, especially Andrew Bynum who’s looking fit for the playoffs putting up double-doubles in 6 of his last 7 averaging over 30 minutes a game, but we’ll see if he’ll man up in the playoffs against someone who’s not Michael Beasley.
They just came off an easy win vs the Hornets but the next 8 games, not including the last game of the season against the Kings, will really set the tone going into the new season, where they will take on Dallas, Denver, Utah twice, a much needed Cardiovascular training session in Oakland, and then finish at home against Oklahoma City and San Antonio.
Its good to see the starters still playing significant minutes but the bench should be seeing a jump in minutes as the season winds down because they will be key for playoff success and getting them in a groove is crucial.
The way they’re playing, it looks like the Lakers will steamroll their way to the NBA Finals. I’ll try not to get ahead of myself too much but let me note one thing, PHIL JACKSON ONLY WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS IN THREES!
With that said, theirs no doubt in my mind the Lakers will go all out knowing this is the Zen Master’s last stand and Kobe will probably play as if this is his last year as well to make sure Phil will plan his retirement party after June.
I can’t see any team really giving the Lakers a tough time in the west besides the Thunder with Kendrick Perkins now in their front court alongside Ibaka. Russel Westbrook’s quickness will give D-Fish a handful but as long as the Laker bigs shut down the paint, the Thunder’s outside shooting will have to carry them through.
All looks good for Lakers fans as the best is yet to come.
