Kurt Rambis has reportedly reached an agreement to become the next head coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Marc Stein of ESPN.com is reporting that the Wolves and Rambis have reached a four year deal worth upwards of $8 million.

The ironic part, he is the heir to Kevin McHale, the member of the Celtics teams from back in the day who got into that fight with Rambis. New team president David Kahn was responsible for making this coaching decision.

A press conference is expected to be held on Tuesday to introduce Kurt Rambis as the new head coach.

Our perspective of this hiring, as Lakers fans, is obviously quite depressing. Rambis has been a great assistant to Phil Jackson and we all had hopes that he would one day take over when Jackson was ready to retire. Who does that leave for us now? Who is the Lakers next head coach? Brian Shaw perhaps?

No one knows when Phil Jackson will be done coaching and no one knows who will take over after him. What we do know is that Kurt Rambis deserves a big round of applause for his efforts and dedication to the Lakers franchise over the years. He deserves this opportunity and he will do a great job.

The Lakers must focus on the present and sometimes in life there comes a time when you must give up a good thing to have a great thing. Kurt Rambis is the good thing to Phil Jackson’s great thing. In the meantime, we’ve got one thing to focus on, back to back!!
