This afternoon there is yet another Lakers related event at LA Live across the street from Staples Center. LA Live has been the venue for many recent Lakers appearances and here is your chance to witness yet another one.

Los Angeles Lakers star Derek Fisher, actor David Arquette and Ronald McDonald will give a whole new meaning to the popular basketball phrase “from way downtown,” as they test their skills in a long range three-point shot competition from the balcony atop L.A. LIVE to a basketball hoop in Nokia Plaza L.A. LIVE more than 33 feet below.   The Lakers 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament presented by NIKE will host the inaugural “Shot from the Top” competition.  The tournament, scheduled to take place Aug. 14-16 in downtown L.A., will be played on upwards of 70 basketball courts constructed on the streets and sidewalks outside STAPLES Center, L.A. LIVE and along Chick Hearn Court. A portion of all player registration fees will be donated to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Southern California.

The event this afternoon starts at 4:03 PM at the Nokia Plaza at LA Live as well as the third story balcony of LA Live.

Mychal Thompson of the Lakers broadcast team on ESPN Radio AM 710 will serve as the referee for the event.

This should be an interesting event, definitely different from what we’ve all seen before. Come on out and have some fun!
