Maurice Cheeks has been fired by the Philadelphia Sixers as they ahve started the season 9-14. The final loss came to the Clevaland Cavaliers on Friday night as it was the teams 8th in the last 10 games.

Cheeks is now the 5th coach to be fired by his respective team this season before even the All Star Break. How many mroe coaches are going to be fired?

76ers General Manager Ed Stefanski had nothing but good things to say about Mo Cheeks calling him a “gentleman througout” and a “class act.”

He did have more to say though. “I felt we were not progressing the way we had wanted to progress,” Stefanski said. “I didn’t feel on the floor we were executing the philosophy we wanted to have as Sixers basketball.”

Team management wanted the team to push the ball and keep the pace quick. The players however did not play in this style and were no longer responding to coaches orders. Wins weren’t being produced and the team wasn’t about to waste the time losing when they coudl be improving and growing as a franchise.

The trend really has become popular and it’s only a matter of time before other teams start pursuing a similar path. Which coach is next? This shall be interesting to watch.
