Preseason Notes
-
A quick update on the injury front to start things off:
- Sasha Vujacic had an MRI yesterday that confirmed he has a sprained ankle.
- Jordan Farmar sat out practice because he had a sore foot.
- DJ Mbenga missed the second half of practice due to a sore right heel.
The other questions that came up to Phil Jackson in the post practice interview included Sun Yue and Lamar Odom.
Regarding Sun Yue, Jackson was asked if he expects the 6’9″ point guard to play in the D-League this season. Jackson responded by making it clear that the coaching staff isn’t worrying about that right now. Jackson said, “We aren’t making any decisions about that until we see how he performs at this level, he’s got a lot of moxie.”
In regards to Lamar Odom, the questions are the same. I’d like to mention that Odom hasn’t played all that many minutes this preseason and I expect to see him a lot more in the upcoming games. Jackson didn’t say anything controversial regarding Odom and in fact said a few good things. He explained that Odom’s job is complicated this season because he needs to manage to find a way to be productive with two bigs already taking up space. Personally, I support Odom coming off the bench or starting at the Point Guard position. This would require that we put at least one outside shooter in the starting line up. Our choices, Sasha Vujacic and Vladimir Radmanovic. It all depends on who is more consistent of a shooter at this point.
The Lakers play tonight against the Sacramento Kings. The men in purple and gold are 0-2 so far this preseason. Tonight is a great chance for us to see how dominant Bynum and Pau can really be together. With Spencer Hawes and Mikki Moore guarding the paint, I would be surprised if this isn’t the game that the Lakers win and find their groove in. This game can potentially set the record for what this season is all about.
